Importing from Paprika
If you're moving over from Paprika Recipe Manager, you don't need to retype
anything. Export your library as a single .paprikarecipes archive, share it
into Magic Meal Kit, and we'll batch-import every recipe.
What you can import
Every recipe in your Paprika library carries across with its photo, ingredients, directions, notes, source URL, prep time, cook time, and servings. Ingredients are AI-parsed into the same structured format we use for URL imports, so quantities, units, and pantry flags all come through cleanly.
A few Paprika fields don't have a home in Magic Meal Kit yet and are dropped on import: ratings, categories, and the favorite/on-hand flags.
Export from Paprika
- Open Paprika on your Mac, iPad, or iPhone.
- Go to File then Export then Paprika Recipe Format, or use the share sheet inside Paprika.
- Save the
.paprikarecipesfile somewhere you can reach from your phone. AirDrop, iCloud Drive, or email all work.
The archive contains every recipe in your Paprika library by default. If you'd rather migrate a subset, select the recipes you want before exporting.
Share it into Magic Meal Kit
On your phone:
- Open the Files app and find the
.paprikarecipesfile. - Long-press the file and tap Share, or tap the share icon at the bottom.
- Pick Magic Meal Kit from the share sheet.
Magic Meal Kit opens to a progress screen that shows a live "Imported X of Y" count as your recipes come in. A few dozen recipes import in well under a minute; larger libraries import in the background and can take several minutes. When it's done you'll land on the recipes list with everything ready to go.
On web
Sign in at app.magicmealkit.com, open the
Recipes tab, tap +, and choose Import from Paprika. Pick your
.paprikarecipes archive in the file picker that appears. The import runs the
same way as on mobile and lands you on the recipes list when it's done.
Limits
- One archive can hold up to 1000 recipes. If your Paprika library is bigger than that, export it in chunks.
- If the AI can't parse a recipe's ingredients, that single recipe is skipped and the rest still import.
- Re-importing the same archive is safe: recipes that already came across are skipped, so you won't end up with duplicates. One exception: recipes you imported with an older version of the app can't be matched up, so re-importing an archive from back then may duplicate those.
Troubleshooting
Magic Meal Kit isn't in the share sheet. Make sure you have the latest
version of the app from the App Store. The .paprikarecipes file type is
registered when the app installs.
Some recipes show no photo. Paprika stores photos inside the archive, so we upload each one as we import. If a photo fails to upload, the recipe still imports without the image and you can add one later.
Wrong number of recipes imported. Check the recipes tab. If a few are missing, the AI parser couldn't make sense of them. You can re-add those by hand using Create from scratch.
