Importing recipes
Magic Meal Kit reads recipes from almost anywhere on the web (food blogs, TikTok, Instagram, YouTube Shorts, Pinterest) and from photos of printed recipe cards. Everything ends up in your library with the same fields: ingredients, steps, prep and cook time, servings, and a photo.
From a URL
Tap + on the Recipes tab, choose Import from URL, paste the link, and tap Done. The AI parses the page and drops you onto the new recipe when it's ready.
What works:
- Recipe blogs: any standard blog post or printable recipe page.
- TikTok: the caption is parsed first; if the recipe is in the video itself, we analyze the audio and visuals.
- YouTube Shorts: same as TikTok, with native video understanding.
- Instagram: reels, single-image posts, and carousels. The caption, cover image, or full carousel is analyzed depending on the post type.
- Pinterest: the underlying source page is fetched and parsed.
If a creator links to their full recipe in the description, we'll follow that link rather than guess from the video.
From a photo
Choose Scan recipe image to take a photo or upload one from your library. Use it for printed cookbooks, handwritten cards, or screenshots. AI digitizes the recipe into editable fields.
From the share sheet
On iOS, share any link from Safari, TikTok, Instagram, or your photo library to Magic Meal Kit. The app opens to the import screen with the URL or image already filled in and starts importing right away.
By typing it in
Pick Create from scratch for grandma's recipe or anything that isn't online yet. The form has a simple ingredients editor and a step list. Fill in what you have and skip the rest.
From a shared recipe link
If a friend sends you a Magic Meal Kit share link
(app.magicmealkit.com/share/recipes/...), open it on any device. You'll see
the full recipe right there. Tap Add to Magic Meal Kit to copy it into your
own library; sign in or create a free account if you haven't yet.
Limits
Free accounts can hold up to 10 recipes. Pro removes the limit. See pricing for details.
